Tail-Wagging Happy

August 25, 2009
By Michelle Kempton

I can totally relate to dogs that arrive at a park almost exploding with excitement.  You know the ones I’m talking about… they cannot physically contain their emotions… the anticipation of being let off their lead and free to run is almost too much to bare!  We’ve all seen these ecstatic pups… their owners can barely control them… the dogs are jump wildly from side to side and tails wagging out of control and hitting anything in it’s path.

This morning when I arrived at the running trails… there was an incredible feeling inside of me… I was like a greyhound ready to take off at the gate!  The first kilometre of the run I seriously had to hold back to ensure I had enough endurance for the entire workout. I’m fortunate to have the mental capacity more than a dog to control my body from jumping with excitement the second I get out of my car… even though deep down my body is in the same euphoric state. There is an unexplainable happiness that rushes through my veins when I run… it’s hard to believe a year ago I found running difficult because now it is the favorite part of my day.
