Cool conditions, hovering around the freezing mark, prevailed for the 2010 Stanley Marathon, the world’s most southerly certified race in the Falkland Islands.

As you might expect, the osbscure event doesn’t draw big crowds, but local resident Steven Frear, a British national, took top honours in 2:43:05, claiming the purse of £1,100. Teslyn Barkman, another British national, who resides in the Falkland Islands, won the women’s race in 4:08:33.

Billed as a true destination marathon, the race in the Falkland Islands often has elements of all four seasons in one morning, making it a huge challenge.

You can contact Adventure Life, if you’re interested in signing up for next year’s event.

The Falkland Islands is a British colony, located about 480K east of the southern tip of South America.
