Early morning clouds and forecasts of rain did not deter thousands of runners from taking part in the Sporting Life 10 K race in Toronto on Sunday. In the elite field, Willy Kimosop who trains and lives in Lethbridge, Alberta won the men’s race in a time of 28.55. The top four finishers all came in below the 30 minute mark. In the women’s field, New Zelander Mary Davies who’s living in Ottawa came in first, followed by Lucy Njeri. Njeri is hoping to obtain her Canadian citizenship in time to represent Canada at the London Olympics in 2012. The mostly flat, gentle down-hill course served as the ideal early spring run for competitors to guage their fitness and speed ahead of longer races later.
