An array of energy drinks now hitting the market offer much more than just slightly sweetened water. Runners can take advantage of a broad range of hydration systems to suit their personal preference and the type of run. Some of the drinks offer extra electrolytes for longer runs, and there are also lower-calorie options for runners who want some flavour a quick hit of carbs and electrolytes for shorter runs. Here are seven options for a variety of conditions in a range of flavours. As a general rule, there’s no need to sip on an energy drink unless you’re out running for longer than an hour.
