July 20, 2010By Michal Kapral
Moncton’s Genevieve Lalonde ran 10:03.88 in the women’s 3000m steeplechase in her heat at the World Juniors in Moncton on Tuesday, setting a new Canadian junior record and placing second in her heat. She’s ranked fourth going into the final. Kenya’s Purity Cherotich Kirui ran the fastest heat time of 9:52.77. “I knew what I had to run,” Lalonde told the CBC about her gutsy run, in which she controlled much of the pace. ”And I wasn’t sure the girls were doing that at the beginning so I just took over.”
