Rudisha runs 1:41.01 to break own 800m world record
August 30, 2010David Rudisha smashed his own 800m world record at the IAAF World Challenge meet in Rieti, Italy, on Sunday, destroying the field to win in 1:41.01. Just last week in Berlin, the Kenyan set the previous mark of 1:41.09.
“I just knew I was in good shape. The conditions were perfect,” Rushisha said in a post-race interview. “I expected to break two records in seven days. I want to return to training for next year because 2011 will be a World Championships record.”
At the same meet, Jamaica’s Nester Carter became the fourth-fastest 100m runner of all time, winning the race in 9.78, the same world-leading time Tyson Gay ran at the London Grand Prix.
Canada’s Megan (Metcalfe) Wright placed fourth in the women’s 3000m in 8:44.29 and Winnipeg’s Nicole Edwards ran to a 10th-place in the women’s 1500m in 4:13.90.
