Fauja Singh set to take on another marathon

November 8, 2011

Guinness may not recognize Fauja Singh as the world’s oldest marathoner, but that’s not stopping the 100-year-old runner. He just completed an 8K run in Dubai and is now eyeing another marathon.

According to an article on IBN Live, Singh ran the 8K charity run in 50 minutes, along with a group of 50 other runners.

Born on April 1, 1911, Singh has a number of world records for long distance running in his age bracket, and most recently came to attention when he ran the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon in October in 8:11:06.

The Guinness Book of World Records, however, said it could not count the feat as a world record because Singh could not produce a birth certificate attesting to his age.

Still, Singh says he’s not done yet, and plans to run the San Francisco Marathon later this month.
