“Marathon man” heads to Cook Islands

January 27, 2012

Martin Parnell, the Canadian runner who ran 250 full marathons in 2010, is back at it again, heading to the Cook Islands as part of his new quest.

Parnell, Canada’s self-proclaimed “marathon man” is looking to complete 10 quests in five years to raise $1 million for children’s charity Right to Play. He’ll take part in the Cook Islands 2012 Round Rarotonga Road Race on Sept. 22 in an effort to raise $25,000.

While the race is a 31K road race around the tropical island, Parnell says he will run the course a little more than three times to run a full 100K. It’s the first time the race has ever been run three times.

During his 2010 Marathon Quest 250, Parnell raised $320,000 for the organization. Right To Play is an international charity that raises money to improve the lives of children in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the world by pursuing the power of sport and play for development, health and peace.
