Malindi Elmore, one of Canada’s top middle distance runners, has announced that she’s joining the Speed River Track and Field Club.

Elmore of Kelowna, B.C., will continue to work her coach Mike Van Tighem, in consultation with Speed River’s Dave Scott-Thomas.

“I’m really excited to be joining Canada’s top distance club and being part of a such an outstanding team,” she said.

“I love what the group has been doing to promote excellence in distance running across Canada and that it’s continuing to gain momentum across track, road and cross-country events. Speed River has raised the bar in terms of athlete performance and team spirit and I hope to be able to contribute significantly to the club’s Olympic success this year.”

Elmore has already been training with Speed River’s Hilary Stellingwerff in Phoenix, Arizona, for the past three weeks and will be opening up her season at the University of Washington Invitational on Jan. 21.

The Speed River Track and Field in Guelph, Ont., features many of the country’s top distance runners including marathoners Eric Gillis, Reid Coolsaet and Rob Watson, steeplechasers Genevieve Lalonde and Alex Genest.
