British workers skip lunch for a run

Forget a lunch break – a new study says more than two million British workers exercise during their lunch break. Make that a “run-ch” break.

Researchers in Britain found that one in 13 employees go for a run during their break instead of sitting around eating. Over the course of a year, these runners clocked an average of 468 miles, according to an article in the Daily Mail.

The study, by technical sportswear brand Helly Hansen, surveyed 1,500 Brits who work out during their work day.

It’s not just running either. The study found that these workout workers also fit in spin classes, power walks and even personal trainer sessions over the lunch hour. Men were more likely to lace up and head out for a run, while women were more likely to do a diverse range of activities.

And it seems the Brits are as time-pressed as Canadians when it comes to exercise. Most of the study respondents said the lunch break was the only chance they had to fit in a workout.
