Rob Watson leaves Speed River
February 1, 2012Marathoner Rob Watson surprised many people in the running community by parting ways with his Speed River training group in Guelph, Ont.
Watson, who ran a 2:16 marathon in January 2011, struggled through parts of the summer and fall season. He dropped out of the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, where two of his teammates Reid Coolsaet and Eric Gillis, both made the Olympic standard.
Watson bounced back with a strong performance for Team Canada and the Chiba Ekiden Relays in Japan in December. He is currently preparing for the Rotterdam Marathon and he will be coached by his brother Pete, who also coaches at the University of North Carolina.
