Seven Canadians braved the 2017 Trail World Championships in Italy on Saturday morning.

In Badia Prataglia at Trail Sacred Forests, Annie Jean was the top Canadian finishing 22nd overall. Cody Callon was the top Canadian in the men’s race finishing 52nd. The Trail World Championships course was 48.7K and featured 2,990m of elevation gain and loss.

All three Canadian women who competed at worlds finished in the top-65 including Jean in the top-25 and Cassie Smith and Kathryn Drew placing 58th and 63rd, respectively. Callon, who ran 5:15:18 as the top Canadian male, was the only team member who bettered Jean’s time of 5:37:05.

Spain’s Luis Hernando (4:23:31) and France’s Adeline Roche (5:00:44) won men’s and women’s championships, respectively. The IAU, International Association of Ultrarunners, put on the Italian event that serves as the global trail championships.
