saloman trail academy

Up-and-coming young trail runners better be ready to take advantage of one of spring’s coolest opportunities.

Trail-savvy runners born between 1997 and 2000, could find themselves testing their abilities this June at a camp on technical routes in the Austrian Alps. This event is a running academy put on by mountain sportswear brand Salomon. This year, those lucky runners chosen for the crash-course will head to Austria to train with Salomon from June 6 to 11. The application window is open now until April 3rd.

This will be Salomon’s third year putting on the academy for young runners and so far, they say, it has been an incredible success. Since their launch in 2015, they have discovered several star athletes through this program including Remi Bonnet, 2015 Skyrunning VK champion; Andrew Miller, winner of 2016 Western States 100 and Melanie Albrecht, mixed team winner of 2016 TransAlpine Run.

To be eligible to apply to this year’s camp, runners need to be born within the aforementioned time-frame and they must be interested in running– that’s all. A runner’s country of residence does not matter. This year’s location is the Neustift im Stubaital-District of Innsbruck, Austria. During the early-June session, 16 young trail runners will be coached on form and technique.

This program aims to recruit and nurture the next generation of trail runners and has also proved to be the ideal setting for two generations of athletes to meet, inspire and share the true spirit of our sport.

Joining the athletes at this year’s academy will be Jonathan Wyatt – 6x World Mountain Running Champion and Ida Nilsson – 2016 Transvulcania and TNF 50 winner to share their huge experience and enthusiasm. Experts from social media, video, marketing and product development including Greg Vollet and Seb Montaz, will also be in place to offer invaluable advice to the young athletes.

Salomon was established in the French Alps in 1947. Since its birth, the brand has been pushing boundaries in mountain sportswear and equipment, creating gear for those who love experiencing the outdoors.

For trail runners keen on this program, all registrations will take place at and selection of the lucky winners will be announced mid-April.
