Who’s doing the Marathon Quest and what’s your goal for the race?

I’m doing the full marathon and my goal is to run a negative split - the second half faster than the first.

I’m still relatively new to running, my first half marathon was in April and my first full in May.

This time out, I’ll be running the Scotiabank Half Marathon.

In both my previous races my calves started cramping.  My main goal is simple, finish the race without experiencing calf cramps.

I’ve also been very injury prone.  I found winter training very hard on my body.  I have new orthotics that I’m breaking in and hopefully have my injury issues behind me.  Goal number two is finish the training without financing by medical team’s upcoming Vegas vacation.

I’m a 50 year old runner living in London, Ontario.  I’ve been running since New Years Eve 2008 when I completed a 5km Fun Run.  I’ve completed my first marathon and have a date with Disney in January 2011 to get a little Goofy.

I live in Aylmer ONtario and I have been a regular runner for the past 3 years.  I have ran several 5k, 10k and a 30 k(Around the BAy!)races so naturally the full marathon is next on my list! I love running.  Ilove the freedom and strength I feel while I run. I am a more confident person and a better wife and mother because running keeps me healthy.  I used to be a severe asthmatic to the point where I spent a year in a special health center in Toronto because the doctors could not figure out how to control the asthma.  I could not walk from the bed to the washroom without having a severe attack. I remember a teacher calling me an invalid as a child and that has stuck with me forever. My asthma got better as I grew older but it still was a bane for me.  Running was something I never even considered.  I just hopped on the treadmill one day out of curiousity and I was hooked.  I could not wait to go back.  Then I joined a small running group and there was no turning back.  The best part of all this is that my asthma virtuallt disappeared.  I have since dropped 2 drugs I was taking on a regular basis and now only carry a rescue inhaler. I am testament to anyone out there who feels they could not run becuase of a health issue such as asthma-You Can Do It!! My lungs are so much stronger.  In a way-running in my adult life makes up a small portion that I missed while I was younger.  In your face asthma!!  NOw for the MArathon-I did the Waterfront Half last year and loved it.  The course was great and I vowed I would come back to do the full. So here I am! Training has begun for me. I plan to be smart and not push to the point of injury.  I will do all the training to the best of my ability and then some.  I am hoping for a 4 hour marathon.  It may seem lofty but it is in the cards for me I believe.  Happy training everyone and good luck.  I can’t wait to meet everyone on race day!

I am a 30 something mom of 2 young children. I have been married for 11 years and am currently staying home to be with my little ones. I love to run! It keeps me balanced and I feel healthy.  When I am not running I enjoy reading and wine!

I’ll be running my first marathon. I live in Etobicoke and practice as a vet downtown.  I’ve run some 5 and 10k’s and did around the bay once. I also did the waterfron half 2 years ago and really like the course.  My recent race times suggest I have a chance to hit 3:10 and get to Boston if I train well.  Like most, i’ve had issues with injuries, mainly shin splints. I have flat, wide hobbit feet which I blamed for recurrent injuries but they kept getting worse despite orthotics and motion control shoes.  I switched to minimilist shoes and my shin splints resolved overnight and i’ve been injury free and faster since.  Hopefully that will keep up once I start the longer runs.

Hey everyone! Looking fwd to get this started:)

I’m from Toronto and this will be my attempt at Marathon #2. I’ve been running for about 1.5 yrs now. I just completed the Ottawa Marathon in May’10 and wanted to set another goal! Training/ Running keeps me out of trouble;)

My goal for Scotia is to set a new PB and run a negative split. All was dandy in Ottawa until I hit a MASSIVE wall at around 36k, and finished in what I felt was disastrous (for me). I finished in 3:54 but my goal was 3:45!! I KNOW I can do this! I want to learn how I can prevent “the wall” from happening again.

Good luck everyone and happy training:)

Tony

I am a certified “Road Racing Addict”, from Toronto, ON. Completely fell in love with running this past year and haven’t stopped. It makes me feel beautiful inside/out and keeps me fit & healthy! I always strive to set new goals. Here are some of my PBs :)

5k TO Pride Run - 22:49
10K Sporting Life - 45:43
1/2 Marathon Scotia - 1:44:17
Full Marathon Ottawa - 3:54:50
Full Marathon Scotia - ???? (Goal: <=3:45)

Thanks for asking Michal !  I have joined because I strongly believe a group dynamic is so more powerful than one person. I look forward to benefiting from the forums and my knowledge that others are out running the program so I have got to get out of bed and get going too!  My goal is my Boston Q time of 3:45 (one benefit of being 56) …so far in the 5 marathons I have completed the closest I have got to Boston is within 12 mins 3:57 and my last race May 23 Whitby I was the longest distance I have been away from Boston with a 4:16. So I am motivated for Sept 28th.
Following each marathon I look back at what I could have …no “should have” done differently and this time it is increased mileage. Your advanced program fits with my needs for the Scotia Bank race.  But most importantly I just love morning runs in any kind of weather but especially winter weather running.  I have only run for the past 12 years and I am still amazed with the incredible performance of running clothing. How well it wicks in the summertime and how warm 3 layers are on the coldest January days. Day one of the hills is completed onward with the 8K Wednesday.

Running for 12 years has taught me I have so much more to learn!

My name is Robert and I will be attempting my first full. I fell in love with running 4 years back. I had never run before till the Nike Rock and Run came to our local gym. I caught the bug and have enjoyed it ever since. I have completed the Scotia and Chilly half in 2009. I am hoping this fall full marathon will lead to a Boston qualifier in spring 2011. Look forward to meeting the whole team and sharing in everyones journey.

I am a 49 year old husband and father of 2 kids. I enjoy running and spending all my time outdoors. I travel a lot for business which gives me the opertunity to run in many new and exciting places. I have completed several half marathons and now would like to complete my first full. This will hopefully lead to a Boston qualifier in spring 2011.

I’m Peter from Toronto. The Scotia will be my second marathon, after running my first this May in Vancouver. I’m aiming for a Boston qualifying time of 3:09.

I’m excited to follow a training plan that lets me gradually add kilometers. I’ve been in recover mode for a month because the Vancouver Marathon was a pretty large jump in pace and distance compared to my longest training run. Should be fun to track my progress along the way.

I ran a lot of track and cross country in high school, then cycled recreationally in university. It was only after a trail race last summer that a friend and I decided to run the marathon, and only through training for Vancouver did I really remember how much I liked running.

Looking forward to meeting a bunch of fun people along the way.

Scotiabank Toronto will be my second marathon. I’ve run recreationally for at least 10 years but only trained consistently for the last year. I’m aiming for a 3:10 to qualify for Boston.

I am so excited to start this new training program and hopefully set a new personal record.  After doing my first marathon last fall - I’ve been addicted.  I usually like to use running as an excuse to travel and have done races in California, Vegas, Arizona and Boston.  I’m running the Rock n’ Roll 1/2 in Chicago this summer — all in preperation to improve.  I also have a goal to start PACING some races.  i LOVE race events… if i can be there and run at a slower pace - i think it would be so fun and motivating.  Just finished my hills for today — no matter HOW many hills you do — they never really get easy - do they?

I’m a 30 year old female who is getting married this summer :) I started training for long races about a year ago and qualified for Boston in my first marathon ever last fall (Long Beach, California).  Since then, i have been addicted and can’t wait to imrpove.  My PB is 3:17 in Arizona this past January - i want to hit that 3:15!

I have been running since grade school.  This will be my third marathon and I want to take 8 minutes off my PB and go sub 3:00.
