We’ve been writing about it for months, but today Athletics Canada made it official — three Canadian men will represent Canada at the London Olympics. Dylan Wykes, Reid Coolsaet and Eric Gillis were introduced to hundreds of school children Thursday in Guelph, as the men’s marathon team was unveiled.
It’s the first time since 1996 that Canada will send three men’s marathoners to the Games. That year, Peter Fonseca was the top Canadian, finishing 21st in 2:17:28. All of the Canadians on this year’s team had to run faster than 2:11:29 to qualify.
Watch for our July ‘Olympic Preview’ issue of Canadian Running, which will feature our top three marathoners on the cover.
