Two Ontario runners took the top places on March 27 at Hamilton’s Around the Bay Race — North America’s oldest road race. Kitchener’s Derek Nakluski pulled away from the rest of the field at the half way point, and went on to win the men’s 30K in a time of 1:37.15. In the women’s race, Dayna Pidhoresky of Windsor hammered the field from the gun to take the win in 1:50.46.
Pidhoresky is in the midst of her preparations for the Canadian Half Marathon Championships, on April 17, where she will be one of the top contenders. Nakluski is building up for his planned marathon debut, in Ottawa on May 29. It was the first time in 15 years that a Canadian has won the men’s 30K race at Around the Bay.
The 5K race was won by Guelph’s Taylor Milne on the men’s side, and by Guelph’s Lydia Willemse on the women’s.
