Watson to run worlds in Moscow
The team representing Canada at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow just got bigger: Rob Watson has declared his intention to run.
Watson, 29, had previously decided in May not to run in the words, which take place from Aug. 10 to 18. This past spring, the London, Ont. native ran the Boston Marathon with a PB of 2:13:37, then ran the Ottawa marathon in 2:18. He said his ultimate focus would be the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
On Wednesday, Watson announced on his blog that he had changed his mind and would run in Moscow after all.
“Despite what I said in a previous post, I’m gonna head to Moscow for a little Marathon World Championship action,” he wrote. “I was talking about how Moscow didn’t fit into the log [sic] term plan and such before. But the simple fact is that right now I am absolutely loving the run, I’m pretty fit and the grind is just going well. I wanna keep on racing!”
As for his plans after Moscow, Watson wrote he’s going to “reload, recharge and regroup for a fast fall marathon.”
Watson will be in action next at the Scotiabank Vancouver Half Marathon this weekend.
