Groenewoud, Furlan narrowly miss national record in 3000m steeplechase at world university games

Chantelle Groenewoud of North Vancouver, B.C. was just 0.7 seconds off the Canadian record for the 3000m steeplechase in her 4th-place finish of 9:51.17 at the Summer Universiade in Kazan, Russia on Wednesday. And just behind her, Regina’s Jessica Furlan finished 5th in 9:51.23.

Speed River Track Club’s Chantelle Groenewoud of North Vancouver, B.C. was just 0.7 seconds off the Canadian record for the 3000m steeplechase in her 4th-place finish of 9:51.17 at the Summer Universiade in Kazan, Russia on Wednesday. And just behind her, Regina’s Jessica Furlan finished 5th in 9:51.23. Both women set PBs.

“Today was a big breakthrough,” Groenewoud told Canadian Running after the race. “I was hoping for a personal best this race and I’m very happy with the result. Would have been nice to run Olympic “B” standard, but I can’t be upset with a personal improvement.”
