The final of the 28,070 finishers of the 2017 Berlin Marathon completed the final steps of the 42.2K in just under nine hours.
Klaus-Dieter Knapp, who according to race organizers was permitted to start one hour prior to the start, was the final finisher of the Berlin Marathon in 8:47:19. The Berlin Marathon captured video, which has been seen more than 112,000 times in the past 24 hours, of the local finishing the race. (Other runners are close to Knapp because they started one hour later.)

Organizers say Sunday morning’s race, which was held in rainy conditions before weather system passed through, was his 22nd marathon.
“An absolute inspiration,” reads the video description on the official Berlin Marathon Facebook page. “Klaus-Dieter Knapp was allowed to start one hour earlier at 7:45 [a.m. local time] to be able to finish the BMW Berlin Marathon. With power and will he finished his 22nd marathon in 8:47:19. That’s what makes a marathon so special.”
