Eric Gillis represented Canada at the 2016 Rio Olympics and placed an impressive 10th place overall in the men’s marathon.

Very unfortunate news this morning regarding one of Canada’s top marathoners just days ahead of Monday’s Boston Marathon. Eric Gillis of Guelph, Ont. was the only Canadian male on the elite start list but has sadly had to withdraw due to an Achilles injury and will not be lining up to start the storied race.

It was less than two weeks ago that we last caught up with Gillis ahead of his Boston debut and at the time, things seemed to be going well.

Rachel Hannah of Toronto who holds a personal best of 2:32:09 in the marathon is the only other Canadian elite and will be making her Boston debut. Rejean Chaisson, also of Toronto, is running Boston as part of the non-elite field but has been training well and could be the top Canadian.
