Rachel Hannah has her first World Marathon Major under her belt. She was the first Canadian to cross the finish line at the Boston Marathon early Monday afternoon.

The 30-year-old elite Canadian was given the royal treatment over the weekend in Boston as one of the women in the elite field of the 121st Boston Marathon. She finished 23rd running 2:41:22.

Thought she struggled with injury in her training leading up to Monday’s marathon, Hannah announced prior to the race that she is running free of orthotics for the first time in years, meaning that strength work is paying off. She was also hoping to break her PB which stands at 2:32:09. Conditions on Monday morning were tougher than expected: the heat in particular was one factor that many runners struggled with from the start in Hopkinton to the finish line on Boylston.

Hannah was all smiles after the race. After some recovery and downtime, she will decide what’s next on the list but she says she has her eye on world championships, and of course, more of the World Marathon Majors.
