The 2018 United Airlines NYC Half featured an event-record 21,965 runners on Sunday.

The NYRR-hosted race – the New York Road Runners host the TCS New York City Marathon, the largest 42K road race in the world – began in Brooklyn and finished in Central Park in what was a brand new course for 2018. Conditions were cool, with temperatures around -2 C, with 14 km/h winds. Generally, it appeared to be a slower day for many runners.

Two Canadians were in the professional fields – both in the men’s division – including Eric Gillis and Trevor Hofbauer, who finished in that order as the top national duo. Gillis clocked 1:05:42 while Hofbauer, who was coming off a training stint in Kenya, was a few minutes back in 1:08:20. Kyle Wyatt clocked 1:08:30.

For Canadian women, Gina MacInnis was the top finisher in 1:28:24 followed by Joan Chung (CR‘s podcast producer, by the way) in 1:30:09. Katherine Edwards – going off of runners who listed their country as Canada – was the third finisher in 1:30:25.

At the front of the race, Ben True and Buze Diriba won the half-marathon in 1:02:39 (his debut) and 1:12:23, respectively.
