Brandon McBride solos blistering 1:45 to win Canadian 800m championship
Brandon McBride, the second fastest Canadian ever over the distance, solos a 1:45 clocking to win the Canadian 800m championship
Brandon McBride ran a blistering 1:45.23 to win the Canadian 800m men’s title on Saturday evening in Ottawa.
The 23-year-old is the second fastest Canadian of all-time over the two-lap extended sprint. He triumphed over Robert Heppenstall and Anthony Romaniw, a 2016 Olympian as is McBride, at Terry Fox Facility in the nation’s capital.
With the win, McBride punches his ticket to London 2017 and the IAAF World Championships. The top-two finishers, granted they have the qualifying standard, earn automatic spots. Heppenstall can qualify for London if he is able to hit 1:45.90 before July 16.
