Involved with running full-time

group

Jeff Enfield is a 37-year-old runner and dad to two young boys from Toronto who has been lacing up since his own high school days. Running more competitively since 2005, Jeff joined Toronto Olympic Club in 2007 and his race times started dropping. Jeff’s half-marathon personal best is 1:12:16 and in 2008n he ran the Boston marathon in an impressive time of 2:46:08.

When not sneaking runs in around a busy family life, Jeff works as a teacher and coach at Royal St. George’s College, a school he graduated from. Jeff is now the running coach for the same team he used to run with.

So you would think that would be enough running for one person.

Jeff has also started his own running company, Enfield Timing Ltd., in 2014 with his wife. The company provides racing timing services for runs in the area. Jeff and his timing service aim to be simple and discreet and use only disposable no-foam bib chips for running events and place an emphasis on putting up quick electronic results onsite and online.

A friend of Jeff’s got hold of me and told me about Jeff and I reached out.

How do you keep running fun with it invading all areas of your life?

I have taken a less serious attitude towards running. In the past it was all about competition and achieving race goals. I was pretty driven. Now, with less time to properly train for those goals I just go for runs rather than go for “training runs”. I run with one of my sons in the running stroller or just go alone with no watch. I never regret a run. Running is usually one of the best parts of my day.

What is it about running that you have a passion for?

To me, running is the purest form of athletic competition out there. It is so simple, so primal, and every human understands the rules of a foot race. First one to the finish line wins. It’s success is also directly related to how hard you work at it. I love that.

What are your running goals for 2015?

I would love to say I’m going after a big PR in some race, but I’m somewhat ashamed to say that it is not going to happen. I plan to use the spring and summer months to log as many miles on the roads and trails as possible. I have a handful of various local sections of road/trail. I time myself on those and write down personal PRs. I will go after some of those.

Runners with passion and who help, volunteer and contribute to the running community are what drives the Canadian running scene.

Run on Jeff.

See you on the roads or in the blogosphere.
