Runners at a Marathon

Every year runners ask me if Maritime Race Weekend has pace bunnies. We haven’t because finding and organizing enough reliable pacers to cover a variety of time-goals for four race distances is a challenge. In 2015 that is changing and we’ll be introducing pace bunnies.

About six months ago, a local runner, Durwin Brennan, and I were discussing the local race scene. I explained to him why I didn’t have pacers and suggested it would help significantly if there was an organized group of volunteers who offered pacing. Being the go-getter that he is, within weeks Durwin had started a group called White Rabbit Pacing. He’s already started recruiting a group of experienced runners who will train to pace the 10K and half-marathon groups at Maritime Race Weekend. As their volunteer base grows, they’ll also offer pacing for 5K and marathon distances.

White Rabbit Pacing is the first group of it’s kind in the Maritimes. The will will make its debut at Maritime Race Weekend.

They are pacing volunteers and always looking for dedicated runners who are committed to helping others attain their race goals. White Rabbit Pacing is free to join and organized by volunteers. The group is promising to meet the high standards expected by pace bunnies. In the future, expect to see White Rabbit Pacing at events in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.

I know from experience, pacing someone through a race can be even more rewarding than setting your own PB. If you’re a consistent runner and want to have a rewarding experience, then sign-up to be a pace bunny!
