Celebrating speed

Good times in the Maritimes can mean a couple of things—having a fun time, having a fast time or both. Currently, the cash prizes at Maritime Race Weekend are about having fun and are awarded to pirates. We give away $600 for the best pirate costumes on Friday and Saturday. Speedsters will be excited to hear that in 2016, we will start giving out cash prizes to race winners too. This year, new trophies for top performers are revealed.

If you win one of the five races, your name will be displayed on the Captain’s Treasure Chest. You can’t take the trophy home with you, but it will be proudly displayed for all to admire at race kit pick-up during race weekend each year. You’ll also win registration for next year and receive extra bling to attach to your medal, indicating that you are the race winner.

Age category winners receive extra bling. The pendant represents and celebrates that you are the top of your age group.

If you break a course record, your name will be displayed on a whiskey bottle for all to see and aspire to.

Win the Tartan Twosome (both Friday and Saturday races) and you will receive the ultimate pirate booty! Your name is engraved on a whiskey bottle and you’re given a pirate chest to display at home. Inside is a treasure that grants you life-time registration to Maritime Race Weekend! We’ve had a Tartan Twosome winner every year: Dave Nevitt won in 2012 (Sunset 5K and Classic Marathon), Mikayla Boucher in 2013 (Sunset 5K and Sunrise 5K) and Denise Robson in 2014 (Sunset 5K and Coastal 10K).
