Customize your race bib

Maritime bib1

Race bibs often take a backseat to the medals and swag. I want to change that.

Maritime Race Weekend’s bib designs have improved every year. I hope this year, runners treasure the five year anniversary bib by posting it on their fridge, in their office or placing it in a scrapbook to remember their good times in the Maritimes.

This year, in addition to the bib having a pirate look, participants can customize their bib by displaying their home city and their first name (or they can create a pirate name if they choose). As a destination race, our runners travel from all over the world. Imagine how interesting it will be to see the different locations represented in the crowd.

My timing guy will probably hate me for this (and by probably, I mean he will)  but we aren’t going to include a bib number on the front. Why? Our racers are more than a number. The bib number and chip will be on the back of the bib, because the random number really doesn’t serve a purpose other than for timing. We don’t want our fabulous spectators shouting out bib numbers to encourage runners. Instead, we want them shouting out their first names– or better yet, their pirate names.

Some races color code their races by distance. We get a lot of last-minute distance switches, so that’s not an option for us. However, we do have to differentiate single race and double race runners.

Above are the bib reveals for 2016. Hope you’re looking forward!
