Win a trip to the BMO 2014 Vancouver Marathon

In partnership with Canadian Running magazine, the Vancouver International Marathon Society will be awarding race weekend trip to one lucky winner!

Just imagine the wind in your hair as you coast through Vancouver’s most charming neighbourhoods, stunning beaches, coastal mountain views and iconic landmarks. The roaring crowds at the finish line, that feeling of completion and satisfaction that you only get from a long race. This could all be yours on May 4, 2014!

Send us a story, photo or video telling us why you want to run the 2014 BMO Vancouver Marathon.

The winning entry will receive a trip, including return flight, three nights accommodation and race entry to either the 8K, half-marathon or marathon offered at the 2014 BMO Vancouver Marathon, May 4, 2014.

To enter, you must submit text, pictures or a video link to contest@runningmag2.wpengine.com. Put “BMO Vancouver Marathon contest” in the subject line. We will judge the entries and choose a winner. Select entries will be featured on our website and social media.

Your pictures, video or written piece should illustrate why it is that you should be Vancouver-bound next spring for one of Canada’s most popular and beautiful running events. You must be a Canadian resident (excluding Quebec residents) and at least 18 years of age to enter. The contest runs between Nov. 15, 2013 – Jan. 15, 2014.

Terms

1. The term “Contest” refers to the Win a trip to the 2014 BMO Vancouver Marathon Contest

2. The “Contest Sponsor” is the Vancouver International Marathon Society.

3. The “Contestant” is the owner of the email, Facebook or Twitter account associated with the contest

entry.

4. The “Contest Parties” is any third party company hired by the “Contest Sponsor” to administer the

Contest.

5. An “Entry” is one completed entry email submission, including a contestant’s complete name (first and

last) and email address, submitted to contest@runningmag2.wpengine.com before January 15, 2014 at 11:59

p.m. EST.

6. One (1) Prize will be awarded (known as “Win a Trip to the 2014 BMO Vancouver Marathon Contest

Prize”). The winning contestant will be chosen by choosing the best and most original entry. The draw will

take place will take place January 24, 2014. The prize(s) must be claimed on or before February 24, 2014.

The winning contestant will receive a Win a Trip to the 2014 BMO Vancouver Marathon Contest Prize that

includes:

One Marathon Registration (1) or a Half Marathon Registration (1) or a 8KM Race Registration OR

• Runners who have already registered for half marathon or full marathon will have the option to be

upgraded to the Platinum Package.

• A return flight from Canada.

• Three nights accommodations at the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel in Vancouver (3).

7. The winner is responsible for any incidental charges such as transit or parking. The odds of winning

depend on the number of Contestants. The prize is not transferable. The Contest sponsor has the right to

substitute equivalent prizes at its sole discretion. The approximate value of the prize is $2000.

8. Contestant or Winner photos and stories may be prominently featured on the BMO Vancouver Marathon

page, in their twitter stream and on www.bmovanmarathon.ca )

Eligibility

1. The Contest is open to residents of Canada (excluding the province of Quebec), who at the date of entry

are of the age of majority in their state/province/country of residence.

3. This Contest is governed by the laws of Canada. The Contest is void where prohibited by law.

4. One entry per person.

5. If the prize is not claimed by February 24, 2014, the prize will be considered forfeited.

6. The Contest is void where prohibited by law.

7. Winning contestants must meet the minimum age restrictions of the Half Marathon, Full Marathon, 8KM

at the time of claiming the prize

Content Requirements

1. Entries must not contain any elements that are copyrighted, protected by trade secret or otherwise

subject to third party intellectual property or proprietary rights, including privacy and publicity rights.

2. By sending a photo Entry, the Contestant affirms that he or she owns all intellectual property in and

to the photo Entry and has obtained the necessary rights, licenses, consents and permissions to use all

material depicted in the photo, including but not limited to consent from all individuals whose image or

likeness appears in the photo and that he or she is prepared to provide documentation to that effect upon

request. Failure to obtain such rights and consents may result in the disqualification of the Entry at the

Contest Sponsor’s sole discretion.

3. Entries must not contain profanity, explicit sexual material, graphic violence, appeals to violence, or

commercial promotion. Entries must adhere to the norms of civil discourse and should not contain material

that might be considered abusive, inflammatory or disrespectful to other groups or individuals.

4. Entries that do not comply with these Guidelines and Official Rules or that otherwise contain prohibited,

inappropriate, or irrelevant content as determined by the Contest Sponsor, at its sole discretion, will be

disqualified, removed from the Contest site and not considered for a prize.

Liabilities and Rights

1. The Contest Sponsor does not endorse any Entry or any opinion, recommendation, or advice expressed

therein, and the Contest Sponsor expressly disclaims any and all liability in connection with all Entries.

2. The Contest Sponsor does not permit or condone copyright infringing activities and infringement

of intellectual property rights and will, in its sole discretion, remove any Entry in violation of copyright

protections if properly notified that an Entry infringes on another’s intellectual property rights.

3. The Contestant assumes sole responsibility for the material contained in the Entry and for the

consequences of posting it on the Contest site.

4. Neither the Contest Sponsor nor any of the Contest Parties is liable for any disputes between

collaborators related to an Entry.

5. Contestants retain ownership of their Entries. However, by submitting an Entry to the Contest,

Contestants grant the Contest Sponsor a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable license to

use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, and perform the Entries in any media

formats and through any media channels in connection with the Contest and in connection with the

business of the Contest Sponsor. Entries are subject to editing, as they may be used by the Contest

Sponsor for promotional purposes.

Draw Process

All Entries will be screened by the Contest Sponsor to ensure compliance with the Official Rules of the

Contest. The Contest Sponsor reserves the right to verify that an Entry is in full compliance with these

Contest Guidelines and Official Rules before it is recognized as a winning Entry and before awarding any

prize. The winner (s) will be chosen by a game of skills .

Timeline

– Contest Opens November 14, 2013 at 11:59AM EST

– Contest Closes to entries January 15, 2014 at 11:59PM EST

– Contest Draw takes place January 24, 2014 and winner is contacted by January 25, 2014

General Terms and Conditions

If for any reason the Contest is not capable of running as planned, including without limitation, infection by

computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes,

which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Contest,

the Contest Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to cancel, modify or terminate the Contest.

Further, the Contest Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual deemed

to be (a) tampering or attempting to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or the

Contest Sponsor; (b) violating the Official Contest Rules; (d) violating the Contest Sponsor’s Terms of Use

and Privacy Statements; or (e) acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy,

abuse, threaten or harass any other person.

Awarding of Prizes

The winner will win one BMO Vancouver Half Marathon Complimentary Registration, with a value of $89

Canadian or a 8Km complimentary registration (for 8KM or Teen 8KM), with a value of $49 Canadian or

a BMO Vancouver Marathon Complimentary Registration, with a value of $119 Canadian. The winner will

also win a return flight from Canada and three nights accommodations in a hotel in Downtown, Vancouver

If the winner has already registered for the Full or Half Marathon, they will win an upgrade to the Platinum

Package. The winner will receive a contact at the Contest Sponsor in a winner’s email sent once the winner

has been selected and has met the winner’s requirements with details of their prize. The prize has no cash

value. The prize is not transferable. The Contest Winner may not sell the prize. If the Contest Winner is

found to have sold the prize to another person, they will automatically forfeit the prize.

Limitations of Liability and Release

Contest Sponsor and Contest Parties assume no liability or responsibility resulting from any user’s

participation in or attempt to participate in the Contest or ability or inability to upload or download any

information in connection with participating in the Contest. Contest Sponsor and Contest Parties assume

no responsibility or liability for technical problems or technical malfunction arising in connection with any of

the following occurrences which may affect the operation of the Contest: hardware or software errors; faulty

computer, telephone, cable, satellite, network, electronic, wireless or Internet connectivity or other online

communication problems; errors or limitations of any Internet service providers, servers, hosts or providers;

garbled, jumbled or faulty data transmissions; failure of any email transmissions to be sent or received;

lost, late, delayed or intercepted email transmissions; inaccessibility of the Facebook website in whole or

in part for any reason; traffic congestion on the Internet or the Facebook website; unauthorized human

or non-human intervention with the operation of the Contest, including without limitation, unauthorized

tampering, hacking, theft, virus, bugs, worms; or destruction of any aspect of the Contest, or loss, miscount,

misdirection, inaccessibility or unavailability of an email account used in connection with the Contest.

Contest Sponsor and Contest Parties are not responsible for any typographical errors in the announcement

of prizes or these Official Rules, or any inaccurate or incorrect data contained on the Facebook website.

Use of Facebook website is at user’s own risk. Contest Sponsor and the Contest Parties are not

responsible for any personal injury or property damage or loss of any kind which may be sustained to

user’s or any other person’s computer equipment resulting from participation in the Contest, use of the

Facebook website, or the download of any information from the Facebook website. By participating in

the Contest, the Contestant releases Contest Sponsor and any Contest Parties from any and all claims,

damages or liabilities arising from or relating to such Contestant’s participation in the Contest. The Contest

Sponsor and Contest Parties are not liable in the event that any portion of the Contest is cancelled due to

weather, fire, strike, acts of war or terrorism, or any other condition beyond their control (a “Force Majeure

Event”). Should a Force Majeure Event occur, Contest Sponsor may, but is not obligated to, exercise

reasonable efforts to publicize the winning Entries and deliver all or part of the prizes or make a reasonable

substitution in its sole discretion.
