Watch Canadian Running‘s tribute to the late Ed Whitlock, the owner of a multitude of age-group world records, who passed away in March 2017 at the age of 86. The masters runner was an icon on the Canadian, and global, running scene and helped propel the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon (STWM) to international recognition with his remarkable world records, most notably his clocking of 2:54:48 at the age of 73. No other person over 70 has broken three hours in the marathon, which Whitlock did as late as 74 (2:58:40).

Neil Whitlock, one of Ed’s two sons, was in attendance at the athlete press conference where the tribute was shown publicly for the first time.
