What’s in my race bag? Catherine Watkins

Pan Am marathoner, Catherine Watkins, gave us a peek into her race bag as she gets ready to race this weekend.

Oatmeal – I like to bring my pre-race fuel with me so that I can make sure I’m eating what my stomach is accustomed to before running. I bring enough packs for every day that I’m away!

Recovery items – I have a half-size trigger point roller that is easy to travel with, as well as the stick for getting into trickier areas. I also bring a lacrosse ball for getting into my hips.

Pillow – I’m one of those people that likes to bring my own pillow with me. I swear it helps me get a better night of sleep.

A good book – I like to bring a novel for the relaxing and resting time I have a couple of days before the race. Right now I’m reading Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberley McCreight.

Eye mask and ear plugs – Again, this is about doing whatever I can to get a solid sleep the night before the race.

Alarm clock – I like to bring my own mini alarm clock, just to be safe. The marathon is starting at 7 a.m., so it’s going to be an early morning!

Body glide – So necessary, this will go everywhere to prevent chafing and blisters.

Water bottles – If a non-runner looked at this photo, they’d probably think I was crazy! I mean, who has eight water bottles? We provide our own hydration for the marathon, so I bring all my bottles. I drink Eload on the course.
