As official legalization of cannabis looms in Canada, many people are becoming increasingly interested in cannabis and cannabis-related products.
CBD (cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive property of cannabis, meaning, it won’t make you high. CBD oil is legal in Canada with a medical marijuana prescription and can be found at dispensaries across the country. Commonly found in topical or capsule form, the topical variety is primarily suggested for joint pain. Other ways of getting CBD oil into your diet are by adding it to smoothies in its liquid form.
CBD oil has many proposed benefits for runners. It’s believed to strengthen the immune system, reduce inflammation, and assist with sleep.
A salesperson at a local dispensary told us, “CBD oil has a subtle taste that isn’t overwhelming, and is tasteless in a smoothie.” Interested in giving CBD oil a try? Check out the CBD oil smoothie:
Avocado gives this smoothie a creamy richness and plenty of heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. Not to be confused with coconut milk, increasingly popular coconut water has a pleasant tang and healthy amounts of electrolytes. Add in additional liquid if you find the smoothie too thick for your liking.
1 ½ cups coconut water
1 cup milk of choice
½ lime, juiced
1 medium ripe avocado
¼ cup fresh basil
1 tbsp honey
Dash of salt
1 tsp lime zest
1/2 tsp of your CBD oil of choice
Pour 1 cup of coconut water into the compartments of an ice cube tray. Place tray in freezer to freeze. Pour the milk into a blender container followed by remaining coconut water, lime juice, avocado, basil honey, oil, and salt. Drop in coconut ice cubes and blend on low for 20 sec. Increase the speed to high and continue blending until the ice is fully mixed, about 20 to 30 sec. Serve garnished with lime zest.
