Best Canadian grocery delivery services

Don't have time to grocery shop? You're not alone. Here are some of the best grocery delivery services available for runners

Runners eat a lot, and between work, training and family it can be difficult keeping the fridge full. Enter grocery shopping apps and websites that can deliver groceries to your home at the click of a button.

Here are three of the best online grocery shopping options for the busy runner:

Instacart

Instacart works with local grocery stores, and uses personal shoppers to do your grocery shopping for you. Once you’ve placed your order through their website or app, your shopper will begin picking out your groceries.

The app has access to your contact information so that your personal shopper is able to message you with concerns. For example, if avocados aren’t ripe, or the granola you wanted isn’t in stock, your personal shopper will notify you so that you can modify your order on the fly.

In terms of pricing, Instacart aims to work with retailers to price their items, on average, the same as the in-store products.

After placing your order, you’re able to either schedule a delivery or pick up in-store. Cost for delivery varies depending on how quickly you’d like to receive your groceries and whether or not you have a subscription. For orders over $35, regular delivery is $3.99 CAD, one hour delivery is $5.99 CAD and it’s free if you have Instacart express.

Instacart express costs $99 CAD a year, and provides you with free and unlimited deliveries.

Amazon and Whole Foods Market

Amazon acquired Whole Foods earlier this year and the duo is bringing groceries to your doorstep. In light of selling nearly everything under the sun, Amazon has a slightly more complicated interface than Instacart. But if you’re looking for more than just groceries, Amazon could be the app for you.

For now, Amazon Fresh, which distributes perishable food, isn’t available in Canada. But Canadian residents can still order non-perishables from Whole Foods delivered to their doorstep through Amazon.

Costco

New to the online grocery game, Costco announced recently that they are rolling out an online shopping pilot project. The project is currently only available in southern Ontario, but will be in Alberta in the coming weeks. Currently fresh food isn’t available–the wholesale giant is starting with pantry staples and refrigerated foods.

As usual with Costco, you must be a member to purchase their product. There is no delivery charge on orders over $75 CAD. Orders must be placed by noon local time Monday through Friday for guaranteed two-day delivery.
