New sports beverage fuses fat and water

A new type of water has hit the market joining the long list of specialty beverages geared towards endurance athletes. This one, called FATwater, seems to be the exact opposite of the juice cleanse.

FATwater is pretty much what it sounds like: a fusion of fat and water. Designed by Dave Aspey who is known for creating Bulletproof Coffee (a type of low-toxin coffee enriched with butter) this beverage includes fatty oils to make it a sort of upgrade from regular water.

Sound unappetizing? Fat-infused water doesn’t exactly have a nice ring to it but this is no bacon grease or fast food beverage. The oils in the drink come from coconuts, so you can breathe a sigh of relief.

So why would runners want to drink FATwater? Aspey is marketing this drink to hose who seek a high-fat, low-carb diet and he thinks it’s going to revolutionize hydrating for endurance events. This sort of diet apparently teaches the body to burn fat stores as opposed to carbs when running. However in order to burn fat, one must consume fat which is where FATwater comes in, suggests its creator.

However some are skeptical. One of the cons of this drink is that if runners drink too much of it, they could get a serious case of the runner’s trots in the middle of the race and that’s seriously bad news. For many runners, that might just be a good enough reason to stick with regular or electrolyte-enhanced water.
