Golden Milk is a warm beverage that is infused with turmeric, which is an anti-inflammatory spice that contributes to healthy digestion. This drink is great on a cold day or even in the place of a morning coffee. You can easily make this vegan beverage in large quantities and reheat the extra later on. If you’re looking for a little more protein or prefer dairy to almond milk, you can easily substitute in cows milk.
1 ½ cups light coconut milk (canned)
1 ½ cups unsweetened plain almond milk
1 ½ tsp ground turmeric
¼ tsp ground ginger
¼ tsp ground cinnamon
1 tbsp coconut oil
1 pinch black ground pepper
Sweetener of choice (e.g. maple syrup, coconut sugar, to stevia to taste)
- To a small sauce pan, add coconut milk, almond milk, ground turmeric, ground ginger, cinnamon stick, coconut oil, black pepper and sweetener of choice.
- Whisk to combine and warm over medium heat. Heat until hot to the touch, but not boiling (about 4 minutes), whisk frequently.
- Turn off heat and taste to adjust flavour.
- Serve immediately, dividing into two glasses. Best when fresh, although leftovers can be stored covered in the fridge for 2-3 days. Reheat on stovetop or microwave until hot.
