Study finds green tea boosts recovery

green tea sports drink

It’s loaded with antioxidants and is famous for boosting happiness and brain power but if those reasons haven’t got you brewing pots of green tea, this new one will.

Published in the Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, a study says that green tea is actually an excellent recovery drink for endurance athletes. In the two-week study period, researchers fed dosages of decaffeinated green tea to rats after they finished running or swimming.

They noticed that their endurance increased over the time period. The researchers also say that the tea could prevent decreasing in iron levels. By drinking the green tea as a recovery drink, the rats were also able to recover from their workouts much quicker as the liquid had the power to bring their blood cells back to normal faster.

Oh, and also, yes the rodents’ running times improved over the course of the study.

If you’re still craving the old ice-cold neon beverage though, think about brewing the tea before your run. Add ice and let it sit in the fridge. It’ll be nice and refreshing when you get back! Try one of these drinks when you feel like mixing it up.
