A rather grim video of a male runner pushing a woman into traffic in south-west London spread like wildfire over social media earlier this week. Now, a partner at a high-profile U.K private equity firm has been associated with the incident.
According to a report in The Guardian, Eric Bellquist was arrested earlier this week before being released on bail. The partner who works for Hutton Collins Partners denies that he had anything to do with it. While footage of the incident spread around the internet this week, the woman was pushed into traffic on May. 5. Police just recently released the video to the public which caused a bit of a stir particularly in the running community.
Bellquist says he has proof that he was nowhere near where the incident took place and that actually, he was in the U.S. on the day the woman was pushed on the Putney Bridge in London. His lawyers are saying that their client has been wrongly implicated in the crime. Furthermore, they say that he has concrete evidence that he was overseas during the attack.
According to police reports, the runner shoved the woman onto the road – an incident that could have resulted in a fatality – and continued on his run only to loop back along the same grounds 15 minutes after. The victim, a 33-year-old woman, tried to speak to him however he did not acknowledge her.
When she was knocked into the path of a bus, the driver swerved so as not to hit her. She sustained only minor injuries, reports say.
