Over 50,000 runners get creative with their throwaway clothes while waiting it out three hours before the start
For one morning each year, Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island hosts what could be considered the antithesis of New York Fashion Week. Runners raid their closets for forgotten relics–old race shirts, high school hoodies and worn-out bath robes. One guy even decided to dress as Superman (and ran a super 3:02:50). Another runner sacrificed his Nike VaporFly 4%s signed by world record holder Paula Radcliffe and fastest marathoner in history Eliud Kipchoge. And, of course, the locals were easy to spot, as they were enjoying a coffee and reading the New Yorker before crushing 42.2K.
