The Bowerman Track Club runner brought a drought of 40 years at the 2017 New York City Marathon
Shalane Flanagan describes the emotional New York City Marathon win at the post-race press conference on Sunday. The 36-year-old American became the first U.S. woman to win the race since 1977. “I’ve dreamed of this moment since I was a little girl,” she says.
Flanagan describes the events that led to her milestone on Sunday including missing out on the 2017 Boston Marathon due to a stress fracture in her back.
