Brianne Theisen-Eaton doesn’t disappoint: The Theisen T-shirt is the perfect follow-up to the Ashton hat

Ashton Eaton's Canada's hat was the talk of the track while wife Brianne was competing. Today she responded by wearing the Theisen T-shirt while he started the decathlon.

Ashton Eaton’s hat was the talk of the track when wife Brianne Theisen-Eaton competed in the women’s heptathlon last week. Eaton is married to the Canadian heptathlete who won bronze for Canada in her event. Despite being American, he wore a Canada hat while he cheered her on from the stands. In doing so, he stole the hearts of Canadians while ruffling the feathers of his American supporters.

The Rio 2016 power couple

Ashton and Brianne are married and one of the power couples competing in Rio during this year’s Olympic Games. Brianne has won her medal and her work is done… well… almost. Now she has to play the role of supportive spouse and that started today when Ashton’s decathlon began. Many were waiting to see if she too would don the apparel of her partner’s nation.

But having fellow Canadian team mate and friend, Damian Warner, also compete in the event, Brianne kept it classy by wearing neutral attire on day one of the decathlon. She was seen in Rio this morning sporting a T-shirt with both athletes’ initials on it. Her outfit doesn’t have any hint of American or Canadian symbolism.

The first morning of the decathlon

That was a smart and supportive move by the athlete who won Canada our first medal on the track during this Olympics. As for the decathlon, that’s on today and tomorrow with Ashton and Warner being the most feared athletes out on the track and the field.

So far, the men have finished three of the 10 events. This morning’s session stated with the 100m followed by long jump and then shot put. Warner right now sits second to Eaton after the morning session. He did beat Eaton in the 100m running 10.3 seconds for the distance. Eaton ran 10.46. But after the shot put and long jump, Eaton was able to make a comeback and gather 2,803 points. Right now Warner has 2,708.

This evening Eaton and Warner will continue the competition with high jump and then the 400m which is on at 8:20 p.m. If Warner does well in the decathlon and makes it to the podium, he’d be the second Canadian athlete to do so. Dave Steen is the other decathlete to have won a medal which he did in 1988.
