Which dance could we see? The steeplechase favourite and his wacky moves

Ezekiel Kemboi of Kenya is one of the favourites for the men's 3,000m steeplechase at the Rio Olympics. If he wins, what will his dance be?

Ezekiel Kemboi

The men’s 3,000m steeplechase favourite at the Rio Olympics is arguably one of the most successful, but overlooked, runners since 2004. Kenya’s Ezekiel Kemboi is as wacky and wild as he is fast with a finish line routine that is almost certainly guaranteed to include a dance move or two.

Kemboi, 34, is a two-time Olympic champion in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase, a distance event that has athletes hurdler four barriers and clear a water pit on each lap (see other facts about the steeplechase). He’s the four-time reigning world champion and looks to repeat as the Olympic gold medallist again in Rio.

If he does repeat, there will be one aspect that fans can look forward to: Kemboi’s dance moves. The diminutive figure of Kemboi has one of the best kicks of the running world and usually blows the race open with about 200m to go.

His hairstyle often changes between major championships as well. It appears that he’s going for the older gentleman look in Rio. Typically, he rocks a mohawk.

The final of the men’s 3,000m steeplechase is set for 10:55 a.m. EDT on Wednesday. Canadian Matt Hughes, a native of Oshawa, Ont. and the national record holder in the event, will run in the final.

To get you excited for the event, here are three of Kemboi’s most famous dances from three global championships dating back to 2011.

2015 world championships in Beijing
