B.C. runner Rachel Cliff has got herself an Olympic qualifying time in the 5,000m. The Asics-sponsored athlete ran a 15:23,94 at the Ocean Athletics Summer Series on Tuesday. In doing so, she slid in just slightly under the 15:24 standard.
This news is extra exciting for 28-year-old Cliff since her recent attempts to run a qualifying time have fallen short. She ran another 5,000m last week on June 23 at the Stumpton Twlight meet where she just missed her mark. She ran four seconds off clocking a 15:28.
Cliff was paced by Natasha Wodak yesterday. The 5,000m was a mixed raced which does not interfere with rules around running the Olympic standard.
Cliff is married to Canadian steeplechaser Chris Winter and has represented Canada in the IAAF World Cross-Country Championships.
Congrats to Rachel Cliff (@Dangerous_Cliff) on her 15:23.94 Olympic qualifying standard last night.
