Usain Bolt is the greatest Olympic track and field athlete of all-time.

The Jamaican completed the triple-triple on Friday night with a win in the men’s 4x100m relay. He has won three gold medals at three successive Olympic Games dating back to 2008.

Canada initially finished fourth in a new national record of 37.64, breaking the iconic mark from 1996 at the Atlanta Olympics. However, a breaking development with the U.S. being disqualified means Canada has won bronze. Japan, the silver medallists, appeared that they may also be disqualified for a lane violation but an athlete can step on the line on a straightaway if no advantage is gained.

The United States crossed the line in third but was later disqualified because of an exchange violation.

The men’s relay team consisted of the following Canadians (in order): Akeem Haynes, Aaron Brown, Brendon Rodney and Andre De Grasse. De Grasse won silver in the men’s 200m and bronze in the men’s 100m in his debut Olympic Games.

Tonight’s 4x100m relay is perhaps the last time the running world will see the great Usain Bolt compete at the Olympic Games. The soon-to-be 30-year-old is the three-time Olympic champion in all three sprint events (100m, 200m and 4x100m), known as the triple-triple.

The men’s 4x100m relay was disqualified at the London 2012 Olympics for stepping out of their lane. Canada initially won a bronze medal but was penalized shortly after beginning their celebration around the track. A similar situation arose in 2015 at the Pan Am Games when Canada was disqualified.

The Canadian record was held by the 1996 relay squad who won gold at the Atlanta Olympics. The four-man team of Robert Esmie, Bruny Surin, Glenroy Gilbert and Donovan Bailey ran 37.69, a mark which has withstood the test of time.

In the women’s 4x100m relay, Canada had a team in the finals for the first time since 1984. The quartet did the country proud by finishing seventh in 43.15. The event was won by the U.S. team in 41.01 after doing a re-run in the semifinals just to get to the finals. They were bumped in the semis before a successful protest led to them being reinstated.
