Worth watching: “Andre De Grasse’s Road to Rio” mini doc

In a 22-minute documentary by the CBC, we follow Canada's superstar sprinter through his first year as a pro, leading up to the Rio Games.

Andre De Grasse, Canada’s big sprinting hope at the Rio Olympic Games, has been profiled by The National. This in depth 22-minute documentary follows De Grasse through his first year as a pro. First, he goes to Jamaica after signing a multimillion dollar deal with Puma. Then he races in the prestigious Millrose Games in New York, before training and racing this spring and summer in the lead-up to Rio.

De Grasse comes off as being shy and likeable, still seemingly living in a dream as he grapples with being a medal hopeful and the heir apparent to Usain Bolt. If you’ve got 22 minutes, it’s definitely worth watching in order to understand what it takes to be an Olympic sprinter.
