Ultramarathoner Dave Proctor sets treadmill world record in 24-hour run

Dave Proctor runs 260.4 kilometres in 24 hours, smashing the world record for most kilometres run on a treadmill in 24 hours by nearly 3K.

Calgary’s Dave Proctor successfully smashed the Guinness World Record for longest distance run on a treadmill in 24 hours at yesterday’s Calgary Marathon Expo.

Proctor announced in January he’d be taking on the challenge, hoping to add this record to his resume which already included the Canadian record for most kilometres run on a track in 24 hours. Yesterday he ran 260.4 kilometres, beating previous record holder Arulanantham Suresh Joachim’s mileage of 257.88 kilometres, achieved in Mississauga, Ont., in 2004.

On top of Proctor’s record, six others were broken at the treadmill event at the expo yesterday, all in support of MitoCanada, an organization supporting families who have been affected by mitochondrial disease, which currently has no cure.

Proctor ran as part of Team MitoCanada, a 12-person relay team including ultramarathoner Adam Campbell. The team collectively achieved their goal of surpassing 350 kilometres — they ran 394.76K in the 24 hour period.

Here is the full list of the seven treadmill Guinness World Records set yesterday.
