Checkpoints Race to virtually pit running teams head to head

Checkpoints Race

Checkpoints Race

Can’t find a running buddy to take on tough goals with? not a big deal.

A new app, Checkpoints Race, is hoping to become the first social running league to put you on a virtual team and pit you head-to-head with international competition.

Similar to other run-tracking services, Checkpoints will allow you to track your progress with whatever your favourite app is and sync it with others on your team to complete challenges. Similar to Strava, the app will present you and your five-member team with goals to achieve in a given time frame.

At this point, details on the what the checkpoints will consist of are vague, though when Feb. 23 registration opens, more details will likely be available.

The app will sync with all the major run-tracking apps available already. The company will start a crowdfunding campaign on Feb. 23.

Teams will consist of five runners. Anyone can sign up with a fully-formed five-runner team, or sign up solo and be placed with others from around the world to work with.

At the end of the summer, the top 50 teams globally will qualify for a trip to the French Alps to compete in the Checkpoints Final, a relay race which will see runner’s wear internet-connected T-shirts to track their progress.
