Upper

The Cumulus 22 has a seamless, one-piece mesh upper that contributes to the shoe’s snug fit. The mesh knit provides runners with excellent support, but thanks to its well-engineered design, there is more space between the mesh fibres than in previous ASICS shoes, which helps to reduce the overall weight of the Cumulus while also improving its breathability.

Midsole

ASICS describes the Cumulus 22 as “an everyday trainer with excellent comfort,” and that’s thanks in large part to the midsole. There’s a lot to say about the Cumulus midsole, starting with the ASICS Forefoot Twist Gel technology, which helps to position the foot for a more natural stride. Form and smooth strides are so important for success in running, and the better you move as a runner, the less energy you’ll waste, allowing you to go faster and farther. This soft material in the Cumulus forefoot will help your stride every step of the way.

On the other end of the shoe, the Rearfoot Gel technology under the heel will reduce shock, limiting wear and tear on a runner’s body. Last up for the midsole is the Flytefoam, which is ASICS’ lightest midsole material. It’s lightweight, but it doesn’t sacrifice durability to cut a few ounces. A light but sturdy shoe is the perfect combination for someone logging a lot of miles.

Outsole

The shoe’s outsole features deep grooves on the forefoot which make for a smooth transition from footstrike to toe-off. The ASICS Light Ahar Sponge Rubber on the outsole reduces wear and increases cushioning, which is especially important for high-mileage runners, so they know their shoe is built to withstand consistent use once or twice a day for months. The heel is also equipped to combat wear from regular usage, which will extend your shoe’s life.
