Google teams up with TAG Heuer for luxury smartwatch

Google is teaming up with Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer and Intel to create the first Android Wear luxury smartwatch

In what will be direct competition to Apple’s recently unveiled smartwatch, Google is teaming up with Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer and Intel to create the first Android Wear luxury smartwatch.

Based on the partnership, users can expect the watch to be set at a high price point. Few of TAG Heuer’s current products are priced under $3,000, so the pair will likely be looking to attract buyers away from Apple’s $17,000 version which differs in few ways from the company’s $350 entry-level version.

No details about the watch’s specs have been released.

Still, for those interested in a fitness watch, this is good news. It seems unlikely this will be the only watch Google pushes. Like their Android presence in the smartphone world, they will likely release watches priced at many points and targeting different markets. Within those different markets, fitness tech is one of the quickest growing areas.
