Horizon Fitness treadmills on Canada-wide recall after machines injure six

The recalled models were made in China and Vietnam, with serial numbers TM734 and TM486, and sold between March 2018 and October 2022

On Thursday, a Canada-wide recall was issued by Health Canada for the Horizon Fitness T101-05 treadmill models following multiple reports that the machine can abruptly change speeds, posing a serious risk of inury.

According to a report from Health Canada, the manufacturer had received eight reports of machines changing speed without notice, including six reports of injuries. The manufacturer has also received 874 reports of treadmills unexpectedly changing speeds in the U.S., including 71 reports of injuries.

The recalled models were made in China and Vietnam, with serial numbers TM734 and TM486, and sold between March 2018 and October 2022.

“Consumers should stop using the treadmills and contact Horizon Fitness to obtain the updated software,” Health Canada warned in a recall statement.

Health Canada stated that a total of 6,986 products were sold in Canada while another 192,000 were sold south of the border between 2018 and 2022. The treadmill was commonly sold at Best Buy, Wal-Mart and Amazon.

At the time of publication, Horizon Fitness did not respond to a request for comment.
