SHOE REVIEW: Salomon Pulsar Trail GTX

The new Gore-Tex version of Salomon's moderate plated trail shoe will be a welcome addition to your winter rotation

The Salomon Pulsar Trail is a moderate-terrain performance training shoe with a three-pronged plate embedded in the midsole. In combination with the brand’s responsive Energy Surge midsole cushioning and the shoe’s rocker, the plate provides stability and propulsion, i.e., it’s built for speed.

Weight: 285 g (10 oz.)
Drop: 6 mm
Stack height: 33 mm
Lug depth: 3.5 mm
$190

The brand’s QuickLace system guarantees a good lockdown, and your shoes will never come untied mid-run (though you may need to tighten them up a few kilometres in, the first time you wear them).

The shoe’s lug design (contoured at the front and sharply angled at the back) favours climbing/ascents, but you won’t be disappointed in the grip on just about any type of moderate trail, in wet or dry conditions. And this new Gore-Tex version will keep your feet dry and warm in snowy, slushy or muddy conditions from now through spring.

Another plus–the shoe is unusually light, especially for a Gore-Tex shoe, which usually adds a few grams of weight. Perfect for maximizing speed and performance in winter and spring trail running.
