SHOE REVIEW: Saucony Kinvara 10

It's the Kinvara you know and love, but better

It’s been 10 years since Saucony launched their first Kinvara. The speed trainer has been around for a decade and it remains one of the most beloved shoes in the company’s lineup.

The shoe is ideal for faster workouts or even someone who likes a snappier shoe for their long run. This lightweight trainer has a minimal drop and a sleek and breathable upper, making it ideal for the runner who wants a responsive ride.

The Kinvara 10 has maintained its most notable features. It’s still lightweight, sleek, and has a low drop. Its upper is more breathable than ever, and its performance contoured footbed makes it more comfortable and secures your foot for the entire run.

I used these shoes during several long runs, speed workouts and even on trails. I was impressed with the shoe’s ability to hold up on different surfaces and get me through a speed workout without feeling weighed down.

The Upper

The Kinvara’s engineered mesh upper is very breathable and comfortable. The upper itself is relatively thin, thanks to Saucony’s Flexflim technology, but the collar and tongue are padded to avoid any abrasion or discomfort. The tongue is also connected to the upper so that it won’t move around during your run, ensuring a snug and comfortable ride. To celebrate a decade of the Kinvara, the shoe comes in their original design and with a commemorative box.

The Midsole

The midsole is made from EVA foam, and topped with Saucony’s classic EVERUN topsole construction for enhanced energy return and solid cushioning. The EVA keeps the shoe snappy while the EVERUN provides the smooth ride that Kinvara users know and love.

The Outsole

This is a shoe designed for speed. You won’t find any big lugs or extra weight added to the outsole. This shoe wants you to move freely to run as fast as you can. The Kinvara is ideally worn on the track, roads or dry trails for your faster workouts.

I did several weeks of workouts in this shoe and it handled everything beautifully. The shoe was responsive enough to do fast intervals and cushioned enough for long tempos. If you prefer a minimal shoe for you long run, the Kinvara can go the distance there as well. The 10th version of the shoe is the Kinvara you know and love with some technical improvements. Grab this shoe in conjunction with a winter running shoe like the Peregrine Ice for your complete winter rotation.
